This summer, we went to the Alameda County Fair for the first time. The fair, held yearly at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton from mid-June to early-July, has run continuously since 1912! I’d never been and was so excited to check it out with Franco. We beat the weekend crowds and went on Monday July 3.
When we were in Tahoe, I read a sign that said, “4th of July is just a date. We celebrate independence.” I feel so grateful and blessed. Not only am I an American, I had the privilege of being born in this country—a child of poor, but courageous, brave, and hard-working immigrants from the Philippines.
