We threw Franco a 4th birthday party prior to Disneyland. It seems like a lot of celebration for one kid (a blowout birthday party on top of a 3-day Disneyland trip), but Dean and I hardly ever see our friends anymore because we work a lot. Sure, this party was all about Franco and his cohort of friends, but as parents, at this stage in his life, we determine who he plays with! In other words, his friends are our friends’ kids.
We went all out and threw the party in our backyard. We had BBQ catered, with a few hundred lumpia thrown in.
The entertainment started with Noah, a balloon twister who was at the Touch-a-Truck event. He was so good at the event, I asked for his card and booked him for the birthday party. Look at this guy. He looks like he came straight from Burning Man.
After he came, our professional photographer showed up. She took all these photos. If someone else doesn’t take the photos, I never show up in them! Here we are getting our drink on.
Next up was the circus lady who entertained the kids singing songs and dancing. Her corset was a bit revealing, so some of the guests asked whether I got the entertainment for Dean or for Franco. Ha! Talk about a party for all ages!
Juice or alcohol. Name your poison. Or balloon animal.
It’s not a party without a set of twins! How cute is this?
Oh, I forgot to mention we got a bouncy mansion—the kind that comes with stairs, a slide and a ball hoop. A certain 4-year-old had a great day!

Happy birthday Franco! You’re right – at this stage, his friends are the kids of your friends. Enjoy it while it lasts; it’s weird when kids start making friends on their own, and you have to meet the parent after the fact.

I can’t believe Franco is 4! It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was ready your pregnancy journey. You did a great job on his birthday and it looks like he had a blast and bouncy castles are always a hit!

Thank you so much, Melissa. It is great to hear from you!
