2018 Best Lent Ever: Day 1 Ash Wednesday

best lent everHello and happy Lent. Today is Ash Wednesday which kicks off the start of the Lenten season, or the 40 days that lead up to Easter Sunday, the holiest holiday for Catholics. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and that there is heavenly life after human death.

It’s rare that Valentine’s and Ash Wednesday fall on the same day. Last time was in 1945. I just noticed that the word Lent is in VaLENTine. Crazy huh?

The past couple Lenten seasons, I’ve given up anger, which has really helped me become a better, more chill person as I’m pretty high-strung on a normal basis. The only other Lent that stands out in my memory is when I ran every single day in college for 40+ days. Rain, sleet, locusts didn’t stop me. That was a big commitment, especially since I’m certain I had one of those insane lab classes at the time.

There’s this erroneous view that you have to give up something for Lent. Lent is about being a better person and trying to live like Jesus. It’s not about giving up ice-cream, then gorging on it on Easter Sunday. So ridiculous.

This year I want to create something. I thought about taking piano lessons again and learning to play a song that I could play for all of you, but I nixed that idea since I don’t have easy access to a piano. Even if I rented one, I have a threenager to attend to who probably wouldn’t be pleased with me banging on the keys late at night.

To make 2018 my best Lent ever, I’ve decided to blog here every day through Sunday April 1st. That’s 47 straight days of content. Is it possible? Can it be done?

Feel free to follow me on this journey. You can subscribe here. I know you’ll find the content interesting and beneficial. So tune in!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

With Love,

Catherine

I, for one, am looking forward to it!
I don’t know much about Lent but I think it’s interesting that it’s on Valentine’s Day. And isn’t Easter on April Fool’s Day?
Rock on with it! Happy Ash Wednesday!
