Happy Independence Day from Alameda, CA

When we were in Tahoe, I read a sign that said, “4th of July is just a date. We celebrate independence.”

I feel so grateful and blessed. Not only am I an American, I had the privilege of being born in this country—a child of poor, but courageous, brave, and hard-working immigrants from the Philippines. God is truly good.

The pastor of our church wrote, while we celebrate independence, we should also remember that we are dependent on God. If you have been following my religion series, I hope you know that I respect all religions and faiths and even non-faith, as diversity is the true fabric of our country.

Here are pictures from our annual tradition: The City of Alameda Mayor’s 4th of July Parade. My parents live on the parade route and I grew up watching the event, which is one of the largest and longest Independence Day parades in the country!

  • Do you have an Independence Day tradition?
  • Do you stay local or travel?
  • Did you work on Monday the 3rd, get the day off, or take a vacation day? I had to take a vacation day.

Aw, Happy belated 4th to you and your family!! We were at a friend’s house yesterday for their annual 4th of July barbecue and fireworks show. Now, I am slowly but surely getting prepared to leave for Disney this weekend for next week 😉

I worked Monday and I have to say, it was awesome. Commute was totally clear, I cleaned out my inbox (responding to some things that had been there for a month!), and I left at 2:45. (That said, it helps that the husband had the day off so I didn’t have to worry about getting extra childcare to accommodate preschool being closed!) We went to the SF Symphony concert and fireworks at Shoreline Amphitheatre last night – because we only live three miles away, we were able to bike, which makes it way more manageable (getting out of that parking lot can feel sisyphean).

No vacation day here but I did on the 4th!
I am not religious but I love your ability to be religious and respect all faiths/non-faiths. To me, that’s what it’s all about.

Looks a wonderful time everybody had.

I try to stay my happy butt in the house. Too many crazy people out there who are drunk have some type of explosives.
