We’re Going to Paris Y’all!

parisA week from today, we will be heading to Paris. Eeek! This will be the 5th time for me and Dean, but never together. Oh and we’re ditching the kid. Sorry Franco! We’re going to make you a sister. Just kidding. We are son and done.

I’ve been freaking out about the flood so I emailed our hotel. They admonish the press for portraying Paris as if it were submarine and promise it’s business as usual, as they say they’ve seen these types of levels in recent years. The exceptions are the Louvre and the d’Orsay since they are close to the river with underground storage facilities, and simply taking extra precaution.

We were deciding between Paris and Reykjavik, and ironically our layover is in Reykjavik. I figured, worst case scenario we just do Reykjavik, but the weather isn’t any better there. It’s even colder. Cold weather does not a vacation make!

So the City of Lights it is, come hell or high water. Since we’ve been to Paris enough times, we can simply eat and drink inside cafes, restaurants and bars, and that will be fine by me.

Obviously there is a lot to love about Paris including the food, but 2 of my favorite places are Sainte-Chapelle and the Musee de l’Orangerie. There was also a time when we befriended a local who took me, my former boss and an ex-boyfriend to an all-night rave and we didn’t come home until 5am. Epic!

Here are recommendations I’ve been given, although I’ve been to a couple of these already:

Do

  • Giverny
  • Rodin Museum
  • Musee des Arts et Metiers
  • Montmartre
  • Catacaombs

Eat

  • Cafe de la Paix
  • Les Deux Magots
  • Paul Chene
  • L’As du Fallafel
  • Yeeels
  • Florence Finkelsztajn
  • Cinco Jotas
  • Buy cheese on Rue Cler and walk to a park for a picnic

My friends live there and have not been underwater, so I guess the media strikes again!
I’m envious. Have an incredible time.

So excited for you!! Kid free! Paris!! Wow. You will have a blast and like you said, since you’ve been it will not be a marathon of sight seeing. Enjoy!! Our trip there was so long ago…and all I can for now is look ever so fondly at my recaps and pics…until the day we get to go back.
