How are you doing? Staying warm?
I mentioned that my good friend GR passed away suddenly several months back. His mom posted on Facebook that she woke up on Thanksgiving thinking she had nothing to be grateful for, then realized that God gave her 46 wonderful years with him. She went on to say that some days are harder than others.
That is our struggle, but also our connection. I hope you all had a lovely holiday.
Baby: Our baby can’t sleep without the Marpac sound machine. We have one at home, at grandma’s house, and just bought one for the part-time nanny share we’re doing. Did you ever own a white noise machine and at what point do we stop using it?
Book: I’m listening to the audiobook To Kill a Mockingbird narrated by Sissy Spacek. She’s stellar – really nails the Southern accent. It’s been a long time since I read it. Must have been high school. I wanted to revisit it before delving into Go Set a Watchman which is narrated by Reese Witherspoon. So many books, so little time.
Charity: A reminder (see previous post) that I am raising money for the refugee crisis through the International Rescue Committee. Here’s a link to my fundraising page. As an incentive, I will recognize those who donate and will include a link to your blog/site if you’d like. Back-links are huge when it comes to site rankings. Just let me know in a note when you make your donation or send me an email. Thanks to all those who have already donated. My heart brims with gratitude.
Comedy: I crack up every time I watch this spoof with Jason Sudeikis playing an American coach for the Premier League. “Ties and no playoffs. Why do you even do this?”
Movies: First I’ll start with the dud: Trainwreck. The first half was funny, but then it petered out mid-way through. Thank God I could multi-task while watching it. Now for an amazing recommendation I got through the WSJ: You Can Count On Me with Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo. Phenomenal acting. A tear jerker. EXCELLENT!!!
Music: Adele for President! What talent. I can’t get enough of her song Hello right now, but I’m sure we’re all going to get sick of it pretty soon. 3.38 million sales in the first week? Hello is right.
Restaurant: I haven’t been, but there is a restaurant named Alameda in Brooklyn that continues to win design awards. Has anyone been? Alameda is the name of my hometown.
Shopping: Did you shop over Thanksgiving? I sure did! I bought Franco fleece pants, sweaters and booties from Old Navy, plus a Mega Bloks Wagon from Kohl’s. Ha! It’s all about Franco.
Wine: Want wine on the cheap? Try Bandit boxed wine. We’re huge fans.

Aw, loved hearing what you are up to and by the way listening to Adele’s new album right now as I am typing this. So couldn’t agree with you more on that 😉

We have the Marpac too. Two of them, in fact. We still use it but I don’t think the kids necessarily need it. I think we do!
Des loves fleece pants. “Soft pants.”
I liked Trainwreck but it could have been 45 minutes shorter and then even more powerful.
The kids listened to “Hello” on the way to school today. It was very quiet. They were immersed.

Thanks for the donation reminder – for as easily as I can spend $10 on incidentals, it can make a difference when part of a campaign.
I shopped a lot online this weekend, although much of it was for me!
And I don’t think you are ever too old for a white noise machine. I may get that one for Gwen when she goes to college.

I’ve been meaning to try boxed wine! Mainly because it comes in large volume. I had high hopes for Train wreck. Sounds like a train wreck but I’ll still watch it when it comes out. I’ll have to check out that Mark Ruffalo movie. I don’t think I’ve heard of it.
