San Francisco Ballet Gala

sfballet2Yesterday Dean and I dressed up for a rare night out: the San Francisco Ballet Gala.

I love the ballet and I’m so lucky that my husband enjoys it as much as I do. When I’ve brought guy friends to the ballet before, they always seemed to nod off. But our son will be different. I could feel him kicking up a storm during the performances last night. I can’t wait to take him with mommy and daddy to the Nutcracker!

The gala, which raised a record $2.4 million for the SF Ballet, kicked off the 81st season of the company–the oldest ballet company in the U.S. The dancers performed 12 pieces that give a representation of the repertoire for the season. It’s like watching the Best Of.

Looked like a perfect night Catherine and so glad you both got to go out for night. I have truly haven’t been to the ballet myself since I was a kid, but maybe someday I will get to go again, too 🙂

I haven’t been in years! I did nod off at a Broadway play once, which was highly embarrassing but it was after a late night/early wakeup. I am captivated by dancing, though. I’m loving the top photo of you!

Lucy dances so we’ve been to the ballet often. It’s so beautiful. I knew that I’d been raising Bobby right when we saw the New York City Ballet on our recent trip and when it was done he said, “That was amazing.” and he was able to talk about several parts. Most 13 year old boys would have probably complained about going, but not him!! 🙂 –Lisa

your kids are keepers! it makes me so happy to know that kids are passionate about the arts. i was pretty surprised when i took dean to the ballet the first time, and he said he loved it and wanted to go back as much as possible.

i’m embarrassed to say that i’ve been to very few operas. you just reminded me that i should check out more, but they tend to be more expensive than the ballet. still…i gotta check it out.

I love the ballet, and can’t wait to take Claire! We have a neighbor whose daughter is a ballet dancer and we took Claire to see one of her recitals. She was rapt! It was great. So great to here about you and your little BOY!

I LOVE ballet. My husband is not a fan. He did go with me once but probably never again! What a fun night out. I would love to go to a gala especially if the dancers are there mingling.

I haven’t been to the ballet in years. I’m adding it to my bucket list for this year. My husband would probably try it, if I picked the right performance. We went to an opera last year and he loved it.

    You two look gorgeous BTW.

if your husband liked the opera, then he would like the ballet! maybe something a little more modern and not too classical.

I need to go again. The last time I went was about 20 years ago. I used to go the Nutcracker when the A’s players were the mice. They stopped that about 20 years ago.

    You two look great.
