Here’s an update on what’s been going on with me.
- I worked 12 days straight.
- On the 12th day I was in the office at 4:30am and worked a full day because my company reported its earnings for the quarter and that’s part of my job—to report our financial performance.
- Aside from work, I have rushed home, eaten dinner, had a few scoops of ice-cream, and gone straight to bed…because I’m preggers and every day is a milestone with my little bun in the oven.
I wake up each morning and ask myself, “What can I neglect today?”
- I subscribe daily to the print version of the Wall Street Journal. There are stacks of the paper in my office and at home. Unread.
- Blogging: Apologies to my blogging community, I can barely keep up with all of the posts let alone post on my own.
- Email: Yep, lots of those I haven’t gotten to either. My company has recently blocked all online email sites (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail) which is PAINFUL. And by the time I get home, like I said, I just want to rest.
- Dean is working overtime not only with his new job, but running our household. He does all the laundry (washing, drying, folding), cooks dinner, washes the dishes because we don’t have a dishwasher, and does all of the cleaning. I’m not to lift a finger.
My priorities have obviously shifted toward laziness, which is shocking since I pride myself on being insanely productive. But this is also a special time to hibernate, just me and my baby.
Each pound gained, every moment slacked…it will all be worth it.

As it totally should be. Seriously, so happy for you and you deserve to be as lazy and relaxed as you can during this time!! 🙂
Catherine
thank you janine! i’ve definitely been taking laziness to a new level!

Good for you! – and don’t apologize for doing what you have to do. Don’t be afraid to ease up on work a bit, too, if your body needs it… trust me, I know how hard that can be, but you have to take care of you and that little one.
Catherine
thanks michaela, i agree. i actually considered taking some time off work, but being in the office is fine since i’m sitting all day anyway! keeps me occupied without being too taxing.
Kate
I can’t believe your company blocked all email sites. That doesn’t seem right- what about people’s lunch breaks? Hope you can have some time to put your feet up!
Catherine
i know, kate, it’s totally ridiculous how they block personal email, yet allow facebook. it just doesn’t make any sense.
Tamara
Neglect away! Jobs are important, as is every day when pregnant. Hope you’re feeling well!
Catherine
thanks tamara. i am definitely enjoying this time of neglect!
patrick Wesean
Take care of yourself and relax when you.
That sucks that your company blocked email sites.
Catherine
thanks patrick! i have been taking ‘lazy’ to a new level!

This time is for you and your baby. I think everyone will understand if you neglect us here. And don’t listen to Sheryl Sandburg this is not the time for you to lean in at work. Still sending you good vibes.
Catherine
haha! oh you are too funny about leaning back at work (vs leaning in) while pregnant. i have been conducting my fair share of “resting my eyes” during the work day.
dana
You are being productive – you are nurturing a life inside you. If that’s not a reason to neglect other things, I don’t know what is! Hope you are feeling well and are receiving all the good vibes being sent your way.
Catherine
thank you so much dana. yes, me and the baby are truly feeling the love!
Melissa
Oh my goodness! I’d be ripping my hair out at day 7! That’s awesome that your hubby is being so supportive and helping out around the house. Maybe you’ll get a full day soon to just kick back with your feet up and catch up on your reading. 🙂
Catherine
thank you melissa. i’m always behind when it comes to my blog reading, but slowly but surely i will catch up!

That’s crazytown that your company blocked all online email sites. Very 2003 of them. Especially since that just means people will be reading emails on their phones more now. Anyway, you are NOT lazy. As my mother in law used to tell me: You are building a person inside. That’s hard enough work!!
Catherine
that’s hilarious. yes, it is totally 2003 of them. like hello big brother! thank you for indulging me on my laziness. you are right. i have a growing human being inside of me. mama’s gotta rest!
Catherine
thank you stefanie! i am taking ‘laziness’ to the extreme!

First of all, you are not even remotely close to lazy! And secondly, Dean is a definite keeper! That is awesome he is helping out so much!
Catherine
