Y’all ready for me to admit wrongdoing / fault / business fail? Since this blog is my own little personal P&L, I need to treat it as a business and I have failed you! Honestly, I didn’t even realize it until recently.
Question: Do your blog readers get an emailed message when you respond to their comment?
Ever since I went through my first redesign, I thought for sure that people who commented on my blog were getting my responses via email. I have since learned that is not the case. Maybe it worked initially but then it stopped after some upgrade or a new redesign, I have no clue. I don’t exactly know what happened or what went wrong, all I know is that I deserve a scarlet letter of an F on my prairie dress because my poor commenters have not been receiving my responses.
I feel horribly! Anyhow, I understand it’s been corrected and we tested it out, so going forward you should now be receiving responses from me because, for the most part, I have always responded to every comment. You can even go back and read what I said if ever you commented and thought I did not respond, because I assure you I did!
If this ever happens again, please keep me honest. Also, it’s something you should probably check out if you’re a blogger as I’ve noticed it’s kinda klugey and isn’t necessarily consistent among everyone out there in the blogosphere. Just ask people who comment on your blog if they get your response via email. One more task to put on your to do list!
In the past I would just keep coming back to see if you responded…glad to know I’ll be receiving emails. Good for continued engagement.

Hmmm. I assumed people had to check the “follow comments” box in order to receive my replies via e-mail. I checked my settings… maybe since I have a wordpress site with limited functionality, that’s the best I can do. I’ll check into though. Great post – thanks so much!
Hi Karen, seems so simple, but I guess it all depends on what plugins people have and if it was setup correctly. Happy blogging!
I’ve asked friends if they get a response – on my blog they have to check the box (like the first one you have below) but I keep it checked by default. It is nice to see a response via an email instead of having to check back!

When I came over to WP from Blogger I was absolutely sure that people were receiving emails of my response. SO not the case! I installed the plugin and have been happy ever since. I think a lot of folks think that its automatic and it so isn’t!
Exactly Nellie! I mean I was certain people were getting emails from me. Can you believe my shock when they weren’t? I was actually kinda heartbroken because we all take the time to respond to our readers and they didn’t even know it!
