Royale with Cheese: Thoughts on the Royal Baby

royal-baby-boy-kate-middleton-leisure-workplace-ecards-someecardsCongratulations to the royal family on the new heir to the throne. All newborn babies are a gift from God and should be treasured whether they are born into wealth and prestige or not.

But seriously, people, the fact that the monarchy still exists in this day and age drives me bat-shit cray-cray. This is nepotism at its finest. Does anyone else have a problem with nepotism?! Maybe if you’re born into it, you’re as happy as a lark, but for the rest of us commoners, it just ain’t right!

Does anyone in Britain care that their hard-earned, tax-paying dollars go to funding the royals’ extravagant, polo-playing lifestyles? Hello, can we please get a reality check on this outdated and useless form of government?

Apply this scenario to America. Let’s say the Kardashians are American royalty. That means we’ve got Duchess Kim and Duke Kanye and their baby Princess North. SICK! Like seriously disgusting! Sure they’re trashy reality TV stars, but just imagine if that were the case.

Ex-Princess, Weight Watchers spokeswoman, scandal-loving Fergie is a shoe-in for the Real Housewives of Windsor.

Can you imagine if every single Bush, from George H. Bush to George W. Bush, just ceremoniously by birth were elected President of the United States? Yeah, it would be wrong. It would be disastrous.

Call me a stupid American, but I have a message for the monarchy: Off with your heads!

You made me laugh this morning and for that I say thank you! But seriously, I didn’t see the pomp and circumstance behind these two having a baby. I mean I have had two and no one has filmed me leaving the hospital. I get it, but still kind of ridiculous and seriously insane!

Janine, glad I could make you laugh. The pomp and circumstance is definitely a little over the top!

Ashley, I get sucked in just as much as anyone else. It’s the tax-payer money that drives me nuts! Ironically, most Brits I know are very favorable toward the royals. I don’t get it!

And it would mean we would pay for their disastrous weddings!

Exactimundo! Can you imagine?! At least we are not fronting the bill for our celebrities in America.

I always wondered how the British felt about the monarchy – do they go apes over all things royal like Americans do? I find the whole thing so strange, and very back-assward.

Most Brits for the most part seem to really like the monarchy, which doesn’t make any sense to me. But I have to hand it to the Middletons. They insisted on paying for part of the royal wedding.

We can’t help being voyeuristic, I guess. I think I was listening to a segment on NPR talking about the TV show Dallas and how they didn’t think anyone would want to watch a show about rich people, yet they were wrong. It was like an escape mechanism.

The thought of the Kardashians as American royalty made me slightly nauseous. I did enjoy the royal baby watch, but now that Kate had a boy and named it George I am done I don’t need to know anymore. And yes using tax dollars to support someone because of their lineage is archaic. I think the Brits tolerate it out of sentimentality. If they started pulling too many expensive shenanigans though they might get the boot.

Archaic, that is the word I was looking for! That exactly sums it up. My husband is half-British and he said it’s not any different than maintenance for Big Ben or any other landmark. Umm, yes, in my mind it’s very different.

Hilarious post! I don’t get into the royals either. It bothers me that we (Americans) get so caught up in it all. smh

I’m certainly guilty of getting into the celebrity gossip as well, can’t help but be sucked in. What bothers me is that the British taxpayers support their lifestyles. If they don’t seem to mind, then so be it!

I agree, british monarchy is a big waste of money. However, Amercan taxpayers fund the current president, they also fund past presidents, they fund the widowed wives of past presidents. It is a fact there is a heirarchy in america which is very much akin to the british royalty. They just don’t have the fancy titles.

Jay, that is a really good point that you bring up. I guess the poor British taxpayers (what’s their unemployment rate?) have to fund not only the royalty but also the government figures like the prime minister as well. So there’s a lot of people that are leading luxurious lifestyles on the taxpayers’ dime.
