Why Movie Club is Better Than Book Club

Unless you’re hosting the movie viewing, there’s zero preparation involved. All you have to do is show up with a bottle of wine. And even if you’re hosting, all you have to do is order take-out or delivery from one of the gazillion amazing restaurants in San Francisco. It’s that simple. Our movie club meets a minimum of once a month. It’s fun, easy, and no last minute cramming to finish the book. It’s kind of hard to discuss a book that not everyone reads, whereas it’s easy to discuss a movie when you’re all sitting there watching it together.

Here’s what our movie club has watched so far. Please comment and make recommendations. I’m up next!

Midnight Express

Brazil

Sunset Boulevard

Spoorloos (The Vanishing)

Casablanca

American Psycho

Chinatown

Here are pictures of us post-dinner, post-movie, post-wine, rushing to an ice-creamery before it closed.

You know what, you’re right!! I’m in a book club and it *is* a lot of prep when you are the host and I can’t even TELL you the number of times I am cramming to finish a book at the last minute. Movie club sounds like HEAVEN!! I’ve never even heard of the concept before but it’s genius. I loved the pictures at the end!! FUN!!

One night we got to talking about how a lot of us hadn’t seen good classic film…which is how movie night was spawned. We try to draw from the American Film Institute’s list of best films, but the choice is up to the host.

That’s such a fun idea! I’m in two book clubs, and sometimes will switch it out for a movie that was made from a book (like The Help or Time Traveler’s Wife). And in one of my book clubs, the first thing we do is cast the movie. Depending on the book, discussing who would play each character is more interesting than the book itself!

Yes, we do that too!! We are all trying to figure out who would play the main characters in Gone Girl.

You know, I’ve always wanted to be a part of a book club, but then I think it’s just really not my thing and it’s a lot of pressure to finish books when I can hardly get personal reading/writing done. This sounds so much cooler! And how cute are these pictures?! What a great night 🙂

Also, it’s a great way to catch up on movies. I am so behind, or else I’d recommend something to you. OH! I did see Albert Nobbs recently which is FANTASTIC featuring Glenn Close. Have you seen it?

I am a total bookworm, but truth be told, I have spent all my free time lately trying to build up my blog. Albert Nobbs is on my list. Glad you give it the thumbs up, I will push it up higher on my priority!
