Money Monday: She Works Hard for The Money

Finally, the City and County of San Francisco sent me a check for $480! This is a refund of the money I paid for ‘allegedly’ running a red light. I went to court, bravely, to fight the charge and walked away with a win, because the officer assigned to the case was a no show. Yay for me! It took 4 months to get my money back, but I did after a number of phone calls to the court. Hooray for me! Persistence pays off.

This reminds me of the time I got rejected in college for a spot in the summer Forestry program. I held the rejection letter in my hand and felt very strongly that this was an opportunity for me to show my capability. I immediately grabbed my backpack and walked head-strong to the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM), all the way at the northwest side of campus. I knocked on the office door of the professor who had signed my rejection letter. He was ancient with white furry eyebrows. I showed him the rejection, asking if I could state my case in-person. While it was true, I wasn’t technically an ESPM major, I was a Biology major who recently had been making in-roads in the department through Entomology and Forestry course work. He admired my tenacity and shook my hand, adding me to the class roster for the full summer program which guaranteed me a minor in Forestry. I was overjoyed.
