I never wanted to do injections to get pregnant, but tonight, it starts. The doctors and nurses are moving forward with an aggressive plan. They started booking appointments, and next thing you know, I was at Kaiser late Friday afternoon for an “HCG Teach.”
They’re always talking in acronyms, moving at a fast pace, and I feel quite ignorant. On Friday, I told the nurse I didn’t even know what I was doing there. She explained she was going to teach me how to mix the medicine (powdered human chorionic gonadotropin and sterile water) using syringes, then inject it underneath my belly button. But I wasn’t to worry because we were going to do a trial run under her guidance and observation.
This morning, I had a sonogram. The doctor pointed out one viable egg which measured within his anticipated range. Dean accompanied me to the appointment and shook my hand excitedly, “Yey, you did a good job.” Whenever possible, I like him to come with me and see everything. I think it’s fascinating.
The doctor said I’m to do the injection at 10pm tonight. Cost for this one injection? $96! Then another insemination Tuesday morning.
