Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down

You gotta check out the ashes I got doused with at the 5:15pm mass at Old St. Mary’s. It’s good I went in the evening; people would have thought I was nuts walking around with a black forehead.

I didn’t realize what I looked like until I came home and got undressed. Quickly grabbed my camera to take this shot and randomly got the cross in the background. I swear that was not planned! God works in mysterious ways.

Last year for Lent, I gave up alcohol. One previous year, I gave up anger. Another year, I ran every day. I thought this time around, I’d give up anger again. When I did that before, I really did feel like a better person—even if it was only for the Lenten period. Then I went back to my stormy, brooding old self. But I gave it more thought and decided that this Lent, I’d really put into practice the Secret and the law of attraction which I’m a firm believer in.

I often hear Catholics say you need to give up something for Lent. Don’t pay attention to those people. They have no idea what they’re talking about. If they need proof, I can point to a myriad of priests who simply advocate doing what you need to do to become a better person and more Christ-like. What’s better? DOING an act of kindness everyday or GIVING UP ice-cream.

I found an article online describing 10 principles for living out the Lenten season. One of the best articles I’ve read on Lent. I will post that soon.
