Here’s a list of my favorite museums.

SF: DeYoung

NYC: MoMA, Morgan Library, the Met, Frick Collection

Chicago: Art Institute

DC: the Smithsonian

Paris: d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou, de l’Orangerie

Hong Kong Museum of Art

I can now add the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Hands down, one of the best museums in the world right in our backyard. So glad we decided on a whim to visit LACMA versus the Getty Center (which I’ve already been to) because it started to get cloudy and I feel like the Getty really showcases its beautiful architecture with abundant sunshine.

We arrived at 6pm–perfect time to avoid the bulk of the crowds; the LACMA closes at 8pm. Amazing breadth of art spanning three buildings! Here are some of the artists I can remember at the top of my head: Picasso, Ruscha, Lichtenstein, Chagall, Mondrian, Diebenkorn, Magritte. The two major exhibits we enjoyed were Metropolis and Wonderland: women surrealists in the U.S. and Mexico.
