I didn’t have enough time to think of April Fool’s pranks this year. The day creeped up on me without any solid ideas. Dean hates surprises. He especially hates it when I scare him from behind a dark room when he walks in unaware. I’ve given him a heart attack a few times so sadly I don’t do those antics anymore.
Here is the subtle prank I played on Dean on April 1st. Dean’s coworker has a daughter who spent several months in Florence. He suggested that Dean contact her for recommendations.
This is one of Dean’s emails to her:
Hi Lindsay, I thought to follow up, and ask if you could recommend 1-2 museums, or touristy things that my wife and I should do while we’re there? It turns out that we touch down in Venice, and move onto Florence for just 2-3 days; yet, we want to make the most of it! I know your list is going be a big help, so thank you!
Dean copied me on that email. As a joke, I setup a fake gmail account that looked like Lindsay’s email address, but her last name was misspelled–not that Dean could tell. From the fake account, I wrote this response:
Catherine and Dean, I would check out the Museum of Sex, considering you are on your honeymoon. It’s not published in the travel guides, but a place where the locals hang out. If you are there on a Thursday night, they have an X-rated burlesque show with audience participation. Don’t tell my dad!
Dean kindly wrote back:
Great inside scoop! Only, I don’t think we’re ready for a Thursday night – Yet! Hahahaha. Mums, the word. Grazie! –Dean & Catherine
When I told Dean it was a joke, he was impressed that I had colluded with Lindsay on the prank. I told him I hadn’t and that the email had come from a fake gmail account I’d setup. He is so clueless!
Until next year!
