Church Hypocrisy

This article is currently on the front page of the NYTimes.com. The Philadelphia Archdiocese is suspending 21 priests–the largest sweep of sexual predators in the Catholic Church. It’s mortifying that the Catholic Church continues to let sexual abuse continue. Does anyone up there (archbishops or the fucking pope for Christ’s sake) give a shit about our children? Case after case. Scathing grand jury reports. No action. I don’t see a single step being taken to prevent the abuse from happening again. None whatsoever. No letters of caution to parents whose children are in contact with priests. No church campaigns to make children aware of sexual danger. We should all be making posters and sticking them along side crosses. “Children, beware of your parish priests.”

Ironically, today, I opened up a letter from our parish asking us to contribute to the archbishop’s annual appeal. Seriously? Do you think I’m that dumb? Do you think I’m willingly going to send the archdiocese a check to pay for litigation fees?

It’s bad enough that the abuse is occurring. It’s even worse that church leaders lie and do everything in their power to cover up. It makes me sick and completely embarrassed to be a Catholic.
