For all you SJND peeps who read my blog, this is for you! I subscribe to the alumni news emails and here’s a clip that came through.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the most storied team in SJND men’s basketball history, when Coach Frank LaPorte led the Pilots to back-to-back California Div. I state championships in 1991 and 1992.
On Jan. 28, SJND is honoring the members of the 1991 team with a tribute marking the 20th anniversary of their state championship victory. There will be ceremony recognizing the team’s outstanding accomplishments at half-time during the men’s varsity home game against John Swett.
The 1991 team included Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd, who was a junior and is now a 16-year veteran of the NBA, as well as: Kris Stone, Malik Jasper, Nick Millosovich, Andrew Cornwell, Thad Hufmann, Martin Bond, Tony Damele, Adrian Ealy, Tavvy Gatlin, Chuck Smith and Kirby Harris.
The 1991 and 1992 Pilots electrified crowds and regularly sold out games, which were moved to local colleges to accommodate all of the fans.
