Let Us Pray, Let Us Learn

I have been keeping up with the tragedy in Tuscon. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. We must continue to pray until every critically injured patient is safely out of the hospital.

This is wrong on so many different levels. Politically, the divisiveness between Republicans and Democrats has got to stop. Politics did play a facet in the deranged gun man’s thinking. That’s a fact. The political vitriol that plagues the media has an effect on society, on our youth. When did our governing bodies become so polarized? We all need to work together.

Our health care system has failed us if this 22-year-old cannot get help!

We need gun control! Half-wits can easily purchase weapons and gun down innocent people. What is wrong with gun regulation in our country? Can you imagine if your mother, father, 9-year-old daughter was one of those who was killed in the senseless act? Are you still pro-gun? Card-carrying NRA members should be ashamed of themselves! Rights for hunters? Bullshit! Take your gun for a few hours of hunting, then return it–a controlled process. There is an absolute need for controls around guns and their usage.

Lastly and most importantly, where were the parents? How could they let it get this far? If your child is isolated, withdrawn, for God’s sake, do something about it! Tell your kids you love them unconditionally. Tell them you support them, you’re there for them. If they don’t respond, if they’re hostile, get them help! It should never have come to this. This kid’s parents should stand trial along side their son. I feel so strongly about that. This is a very young man who was clearly cuckoo, tossed out of community college, isolated without friends. He needed help and no one took responsibility to help him.

1. His parents have primary responsibility.

2. Our education and health care system failed him.

3. Our political leaders have failed to keep us safe. Instead of thinking through important issues like gun control, they’re identifying speaker locations for their political enemies by rifle cross-hatches on their websites. For shame, Sarah Palin!

4. We, as a society, have failed our community if we cannot work together for the good of everyone. To seek out those who are troubled, and get them help.
