I called my parents on Friday and my nephew Dominic answered. When I said, “Hi Dominic!” He cheered, “Mommy!”
“Uhhh, no it’s Auntie Cat.”
“Oh.” Then he tossed the phone back to my mom.
My sister and I look alike, but even more so, we have the exact same voice. Growing up, my mom would blurt out one name, followed by the other, when she called home. She could never recognize which of her daughters she was speaking to.
Last year, Therese was in Berkeley (I forget which park) playing with her kids. Another mother came over and asked, “Did you major in the sciences at Cal? Your voice sounds really familiar.” My sister explained that I was the one who went there for college, but yes, we do look and sound very similar.
Since Dean and I are only going to have one kid, we’re not going to have this problem!
