Loss of a Friend

One of Dean’s friends and a guest at our wedding committed suicide last week after a long struggle with depression. He was married and had two children.

When someone does this act of desperation, I’ve heard so many people say, “How could they do this? How could they be so selfish?” But I never think of it that way. I think depression is just like any other illness or disease. People who suffer from depression are so sick. What makes it even worse is that it’s harder to cure. You can’t just go through with your chemotherapy or physical therapy and expect it to get better. You have to try various anti-depressants. You have to play with the dosage. And it’s never immediate. It’s trial and error.

How do you make the brain feel better?
