I’ve mentioned before that some of my best memories have been from traveling around the world. Well, some of my best other memories have been from summer camp. Caritas Creek in elementary school, California Association of Student Councils (CASC) leadership camp in high school, and forestry camp in college. I came home from my summers like a teenager in love—in love with nature, in love with humanity, in love with myself. Each experience was so positive I felt like I could do anything I set my mind to.
I’ve never thought that I’d be that parent who wants to live life through her child. I hope I’m not that person. However, I want to be a mom who gives her child every positive experience that I can afford. That includes…summer camp! So I’ve been researching fun, nature-filled summer camps for my unborn child. I showed Dean a four-week, activity-filled camp for kids from 1st to 10th grade in Yosemite. He laughed, “Don’t you think it’s kinda soon to be thinking of those things?”
