Baby Names

In two days, I’ve sent three baby packages to friends.  I used to be that cool friend who sent a package to everyone, but when my list of pregnant people swelled to 50+, then I had to call it quits on everyone.  Plus we’re heading for a double-dip, people!  So now I only send to loved ones.

My friend who birthed a baby boy yesterday, came out with an email announcement with my future son’s name on it.  Remember that Sex and the City episode where someone stole the name Charlotte had picked out for her unborn daughter?  My reaction wasn’t quite the same, but I definitely had a mild freakout.  Foremost because the name is rare.  I’ve only known two people to have the name–one of whom was a character in a soap opera.  I’ve never told anyone (maybe one or two people) what I plan on naming my kid so it’s not like my friend stole the name.  She certainly didn’t.  But her kid is half-Filipino, half-white which means that if Dean and I have a son, then there will be two kids with the same name and the same ethnic makeup.  I hope they move out of the city and into the burbs.  Just kidding!  Just kidding!!

Ahh, the modern day science of naming your babies.  No more Marias, Catherines, Brians, or Bobs.  These days, it’s Jayen, Ryan (for a girl), Declan, Maia, Devin, Jordan, Keira, Jayden, Sydney, Arjun.  I could keep going, too.
