The Albatross

Last night was a blast, hanging out at the Albatross Pub in Berkeley.  The Albatross is the bomb-diggety of bars.  Convenient and easy to park.  The drinks are cheap.  Lots of different beer on tap.  House wine and premier wine.  You can bring food in.  Then there are the games: Chess, Boggle, Scrabble, Checkers, Apples to Apples, Darts, Pool, Pinball.  Oh and free popcorn.

Dean and I got there early and proceeded to spar back and forth with Connect 4.

Dean: “How do you play?”

Me: “It’s like Tic-Tac-Toe, but with 4.”

Since it seems like Dean had never played before (or at least that was the impression he was trying to give), I easily kicked his ass for the first three games.  “Haha!  I won. Ok ok, best two out of three.”  “Haha!  I won again.”

Surprisingly, he started to kick my ass after the first three games.  I was shocked.

Anyone notice how sometimes you can be surprised by a win, too?  It’s like I wasn’t even trying to do that sequence, then suddenly there are my four in a row.  Score!  I had one surprise win.

Adam came by after we’d played for almost 45 minutes.  Then Jen, Steve and her brother Jonathan.  And finally Vicky.  Game on!

Were we playing Trivial Pursuit until midnight?  Insane.  Good times, good times.
