What Would You Tell Your Younger Self?

IMG_3536Pray every day and go to church on Sundays.

Read, read, read.  Spend time in libraries and book stores.

Don’t waste your time on things you’re not passionate about.  If you don’t want to take piano lessons, don’t do it.  And don’t let anyone force you either!

Go to summer camp!

Don’t have sex until he tells you and shows you he loves you.

Don’t get married until you’re at least 30.

If you’ve never lived apart from where you grew up, you never got to grow up.  Wake up, Bay Area, this isn’t the greatest place on earth.  Go live a little.

Master a foreign language.  I suck at this one which is why my kid needs a Spanish-speaking nanny.

Travel anywhere and everywhere.  Don’t limit yourself to the Grand Canyon.  There is a whole world out there!

Always be working.  Get a part-time job your freshman year in high school.

Pick the most prestigious school over the one that offers a full scholarship.  No one gives a damn that you got a full ride to a mediocre school.

On that same scholastic note, only go to a top 10 business school.  Otherwise, don’t waste your hard-earned money.

Only buy Mac.

Don’t do drugs.

Don’t expect an inheritance.  You ain’t getting jack shit.

Catherine, I love this. I’m not that much younger than you — but it rings true. Thank you!

Thanks Sandra, it was interesting to go back and reread this. I think I’m still comfortable with all the statements I made. Hope you’re staying cool this weekend!
