Give to Life

IMG_3494A coworker sent this email and it really struck me.  There were a couple times in my life when I was unemployed and uninsured.  I could have shelled out $100+ for health insurance or COBRA every month, but who in their right mind would do that when you have barely any money coming in?  It was during one of my unemployed stints that I desperately needed health care for several months.  I thank God that there were free services in the city of San Francisco that allowed me to see doctors on a weekly basis until I was healthy again.  My coworker’s email served as a reminder.  I plan on making a donation not only to her organization, but also to the medical clinic that tended to me many years ago.

Hi all –

Most of you probably didn’t know that I was born to a teenage mom. My mother had the option to abort me because as all moms know the transition to motherhood is not easy, much less for a 17-year old. My mom was fortunate enough to have my dad and the rest of her family’s support, but when she needed extra help, she turned to the Community Pregnancy Center in San Jose. They helped my mom medically, physically and most of all emotionally. Now we want to give back. My mom has been volunteering at a similar organization in Dublin called the Valley Pregnancy Center. Together we’ll be participating in the 21st Annual Walk for Life in Dublin to help raise money for the center and its services.

The Valley Pregnancy Center offers early pregnancy related medical services, prenatal and childbirth classes, resources including maternity/baby clothes and furnishings and support for women and families – ALL FREE OF CHARGE.

I’ll be walking on Saturday, May 15th to help keep these services free. You can help by sponsoring me with a donation of any amount. The VPC accepts cash or checks (made payable to The Valley Pregnancy Center) or you can opt to be billed later. Let me know if you’re interested!

Thank you all in advance for helping me with a cause that’s very personal to me and my mom.

Sincerely,

Rockstar Coworker (not her real name)

P.S. Sorry and thank you for letting me solicit you.
