How to Train for a Race if You’re Me

This has been my training for the Kaiser half marathon on Superbowl Sunday: a 5-mile run for 45 minutes and a 7-mile run for 63 minutes.  That’s it, folks.  I’m hanging up my running shoes and relaxing until showtime.  I used to be that psycho workout girl who ran for an hour a day everyday and maybe-possibly shed three pounds…at the most.  What a waste of life!  I could’ve been sharing a bottle of wine with friends.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that I called out ‘racing’ as one of my new year’s resolutions.  Who am I kidding?  I hate it.  Can’t stand it.  No runner’s high for this miserable sprinter.  Pass me another In-n-Out cheeseburger because this half marathon may be the last form of sustained exercise that I’ll do for the rest of 2010.

I find it depressing that Dean is losing weight from reducing his beer intake.  The guy consumes a ton of calories, doesn’t exercise, and is ready to walk down the aisle in great shape.  I run and I actually gain weight.
