It’s been a week since Dean got laid off. He’s generated interest from posting his resume online and already had an enthusiastic response from recruiters. On Sunday, his coveted Jets positioned themselves one step closer to the Superbowl. He called drunkenly from San Diego. It was the best day of his life–except, of course, when we get married. He was so happy and I was so glad he got to be there in-person, rallying the crowd with chants. It really lifted his spirits. He needed that after watching me mope around about our financial situation. But I’ve said, as long as he can pay the rent and eat canned soup for sustenance, I’ll try not to worry.
It’s in times of distress that you realize who your true friends are. There are many who contacted me and were there to listen. There were several who blatantly ignored me. “That’s too bad. Talk to you later.” Can I get a fucking hug, please?
I immediately contacted people I have actively been helping along in their job search. One of those people said, “Tell him to gear up for a long search. It totally sucks.” Ummm, can I take back the times I’ve been a reference for you? Can I please? Die-die, you asshole!
The normal response is “Let me help. I so appreciate the time you sat down with me at lunch. I’m so grateful that you’ve opened me up to your network, of course I’ll keep an eye out for sales jobs.”
I was surprised and touched by those who reached out. Thanks to those of you who have been supportive. I am swamped at work, but will work through all the emails with helpful contacts and company information before the end of the weekend.

Sorry to hear about the layoff! Sadly, I have no job connections or leads either. Thinking positive thoughts for you both. Dean’s so charming I can’t imagine it will last too long though. People would be foolish not to hire him. Hugs from Kanadia!
