Summer in November

How crazy is our weather?

I posted that picture below as a reminder to how long my hair got.  I couldn’t stand it anymore and chopped it down to my shoulders on Saturday.  I feel much more liberated now that all that crap is gone.
I realized that I love to eat and drink more than anything else in the world–as long as it’s with the people I care about.  It’s probably why I like to travel to places where I know the food is going to be really good.  Hence the reason why I’m not a big fan of Ireland, Britain…those places that didn’t get the spices back in the days of Amerigo Vespucci.  Was that his name?
I’ve got some new faves that I need to spread the word on.  One of my new favorite restaurants La Mar is located right along the waterfront at Embarcadero 1 and a half.  La Mar is owned and operated by friends of friends.  The Peruvian food is TO DIE FOR.  Everything on the menu is fantastic.  They’ve got a cevicheria bar, too.
Today I headed up to Napa and got lost as I usually do trying to find my way to Yountville.  I was so distressed, I seriously considered calling it quits and turning back home.  I’m glad I didn’t.  We had brunch at Ad Hoc.  OMIGOD, that is the best brunch I have ever had in my life. IN MY LIFE!  It’s a fixed price menu, changes daily.  We started off with yummy buttery perfectly toasted french bread I couldn’t get enough of and a summer salad with salmon and a dill cream cheese.  The main course was duck confit hash.  The last course was belgian waffles with berries and vanilla cream.  It doesn’t matter that I got lost and it took me two hours to get there.  It was well worth it.  I swear on my life, I think this is the best brunch in the world.  We have all vowed to come back for dinner when they have their special fried chicken.
