A week ago, we went to the Justin Timberlake concert at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. It’s the best concert I’ve ever been to. After pre-partying with wine and cheese, the girls (all in our mid-thirties) made our smooth traffic-less passage to San Jose. There was no opening act. Straight to JT, although he didn’t start until 9pm when the ticket said 7:30pm. We grimaced that we should have just continued drinking wine and cheese back at home had we known what time he actually would have started.
I’d never been to the Pavilion before. It’s a good venue. Even though it’s big, it feels fairly intimate. I do have to admit we had front row seats in our section. Unobstructed views of Justin! First, this guy really knows how to entertain. He is multi-talented. He croons, plays the guitar, plays the piano, dances. White boy can boogie! He’s an actor, too, right? Second, the stage production enhanced our entertainment. JT was projected from various screens on the stage, above the stage. His dancers rocked. Third (and this is the best part), Timbaland came out and did a 30 minute medley on the popular music he’s produced. I started screaming, I’m so in love with Timbaland. He totally made the show for me. He was the surprise guest.
Here’s the takeaway about JT. There are very few musicians out there who can entertain anymore. Seriously. Can you see Maroon 5 playing their instruments AND strutting to a synchronized dance? I don’t think so. Think about it. Maybe Gwen Stefani. Definitely Madonna. Not too many out there.
I’ll have to figure out how to post the video I took from my camera.
