Quiet Before the Storm

There’s a little bit of normalcy. It’s quiet except for the cars and buses zooming by on Geary. My place is clear. Everything is loaded into my car ready to go. I just have to setup the bike rack, plop my girls bike onto it, pickup a friend, then we are off to Burning Man.

I have been preparing for this event for as long as I can remember. Maybe even since last year’s event, when I started thinking about next year’s costumes, bringing bottles of wine, chapstick for gifts. I feel like it’s all I’ve been writing about in my blog. I’m excited, super excited. This year is going to be amazing. Really amazing with all the crazy artwork that is coming. And mainly, friends I love (absolutely love) will be there. Some of them are coming for the first time.

But sitting here quietly typing away, I realized there’s a spirit of Burning Man that really should transcend a single week-long event. I told my friend the other night, “you know…I am totally excited about Burning Man, but you know what else? I’m excited about the Justin Timberlake concert the week after we get back. Then the tiki pub crawl. And the week of caring and volunteering at the food bank. Then my college 10 year reunion, my b-school reunion.” All of that is Burning Man! The spirit of Burning Man is alive everywhere. These past few days while hanging out with my friends over happy hour, dinners, I’ve felt so grateful for what I have right now.

Ok, time to go. I am off. Enjoy your Labor Day Holiday. Looking forward to the experience, looking forward to sharing my stories with you.
