Rhapsody

I can’t live without Rhapsody, an online jukebox. The subscription fee is $10/month which I think is well worth it because I can listen at home or at work to just about anything my heart desires. They’ve got this Instant Playlist feature that creates a playlist based on your listening history. This morning my Instant Playlist consists of Everclear, R.E.M., Arctic Monkeys, The Sounds, Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, and Dave Gleason. I’m fine with the first half. I really dig Arctic Monkeys. I love The Sounds–so that’s just a repeat of what I listen to.

But where is the classical? Where is the rap/hip-hop? I’ll admit I’m a fan of the Dixie Chicks, but this country Dave Gleason guy is not my style! Oliva Newton-John’s ‘Let’s Get Physical?’ What’s going on there? And John Travolta’s ‘Summer Nights’ from Grease? Omigosh!

I try to listen to new music, but I don’t do it enough. I can’t help putting stuff I like on repeat. Here are several of my favorites.

  • The Sounds
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Bic Runga
  • Obie Trice
  • Sigur Ros
  • Trespassers William
  • Matisyahu
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Regina Spektor
  • Greyboy

I’m such a big fan of Rhapsody, I urge you to try it. They offer a free trial period.

Have you heard Hellogoodby? I suspect their song “Here (In Your Arms)” is pretty popular, it has the affect of making me want to dance. Or a little Moby maybe, “Where You End”, and “Lift Me Up” (in that order) rock! Okay, you can tell Andy I’ve gone over the deep end inflicting others with my music.

Just a little more infliction, Sia‘s “Breathe Me”; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers‘ “Ankle Deep”; Neil Finn‘s “Driving Me Mad”; …er, sorry, I’ve lost it, your taste in music may not overlap my insanity.
