Vision: Please Stay Put

I’m going blind. I’ve had glasses since I was a kid. Bad eyesight runs in the family. Every year, my prescription increases. It can’t be helped. Not only am I getting older, but I spend more time staring at my laptop without giving my eyes a break. Then I come home, respond to personal emails, read the gossip columns, and write in my blog. I expect my eyesight to worsen.

Still, I was in for a surprise when I went for my annual checkup this weekend and the optometrist looked at me gravely and said, “Catherine, this is not good. You are too young to have this big of a shift in your vision. You’re working your eyes too hard. I’m very concerned.”

Gadzooks! What’s a middle-aged girl like myself supposed to do? Breaks every 20 minutes for my eyes. Look away from the laptop onto a solid surface. I’ve been asked to apply a warm compress to my eyes for 10-15 minutes nightly. Oh, it’s causing me anxiety. I’m going blind.

I recently ran across a site: 22 Ways to Reduce Eye Strain at Your Computer. It might be useful:
