Time to Close the Deal

I’m giving myself one whole year. At the top of my New Year’s resolutions: find someone. I swear to God, I’m going to close the deal this year if it’s the last thing I do. I’m getting antsy. My friends have either walked down the aisle or are on the verge of walking down the aisle. Two of my best friends are getting married this summer and I’m in both of the weddings. How does that saying go, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” I do not want to go to another wedding and flirt with the DJ. That just can’t happen anymore. I’m not desperate, but ready. Here’s the best part: you get to enjoy all my stories while I chronicle the whole process on my blog for your enjoyment. I think I’m more excited about writing about my dates than actually experiencing them.

I started off with some homework. Yup, I actually sat down one day and figured out what is critical for me…the characteristics I’m looking for in a partner. And I put together a matrix of these characteristics and matched them up with the guys I’m currently dating. My sister always told me that I should create a list, but I always thought I simply wanted someone who was smart, funny, and attractive. Turns out, that’s not the case. It was an eye-opening experience actually putting down on paper things that are important and things that are deal-breakers. And now that I’ve determined exactly what I need, I feel like I’m well on my way to getting what I want. I know it’s going to take a lot of work and time, but I think this is a good start.

I also figured it wouldn’t hurt to do the online thing and see what my options are. Well, ever since I signed up exactly one week ago, I have been bombarded with emails, winks, declarations of love. I didn’t realize how time-consuming online dating could be. I am completely overwhelmed and can’t filter out fast enough.

I gave my sister my password and we spent an hour on the phone, laughing heartily about all the guys on the site. She’d comment, ” ‘LastResort?’ Who the hell would come up with a user name like ‘LastResort!’…..Strategically-placed tattoo? What does that mean? Ewww, stay away!”

Funny, I’m telling you. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Stay tuned…I think this is going to be a good year for my blog.
