Last weekend, I was engrossed in the ballet. This week, it’s all about food.
Wednesday: I happily spent Valentine’s night with my co-worker friends at Hukilau which is two blocks away from my place. Hukilau’s heavy, fatty Hawaiian food can kill you. We always start out with Spam Musubi (it’s spam sushi) then move on to one of the main courses that come with macaroni salad and rice. It’s major carbo load. I’m hitting up Hukilau the night before my next race. The food is bad for the body, but good for the soul.
Thursday: I took Daniel out to dinner for his birthday. It’s been a crazy week at work so I was a total slacker and didn’t make reservations anywhere. I felt like such a bad friend. But at the last minute, I did a Yelp search and came across an Italian restaurant that I had never heard of before. And it was amazing! Tommaso Ristorante Italiano. It’s an SF institution in the heart of North Beach, but I had never heard of it before. OK, I’m usually not seeking out Italian food, but I have been craving it a lot lately. We had a perfect pizza dinner with a good bottle of red wine and tiramisu for dessert that tasted almost like ice-cream. Heaven! I was very happy to discover it.
Friday: To celebrate the wonderful weather on Friday, I went out with the gays to one of their favorite restaurants in the Mission. Garcon on Valencia Street. Because I was in the car, we found parking smack in front of the restaurant. We split a couple bottles of wine and toasted the summer night. I’ve never been there before, but the place was totally French. I felt like I was in Paris. Tight quarters. French accents. Not the best service. But the food. Yummy. Bring out another side of pommes frites! Crispy and salty washed down with a swig of Sancerre. I got the duck confit which was divine. Very tasty.
Saturday: My b-school friends planned an impromptu trip to Napa given the great weather we were expected to have. Ten of us total snuggled into a limo. We hit BV, V.Sattui, Provenance, Peju, and Darioush. My friend who is in the alcohol industry was able to get us a serious discount, plus all of our tastings were comped. It was my first limo/winery experience and I must say that is the way to do it. Just sit, relax, and drink. On our way back, we opened up several of the bottles we had purchased. Back in the city, ordered Pizza Orgasmica and watched Entourage. I just might have to buy a TV, I was fascinated by the show. Entourage marathon anyone?

I love Hukilau! I even have a tank top from there!
