ALERT: THERE’S ANOTHER CATHERINE GACAD

I was shocked to find out today that there is another Catherine Gacad. Someone asked to link to me on Friendster. I went in to accept. Recently, people have been popping up from my past, telling me they saw my profile. They’re wondering how I am, what I’m up to. So I thought I’d do a search on my name to see for myself how easy it is to stalk people on Friendster.

I searched on Catherine Gacad.

Gasp! Two Catherine Gacads popped up. This is really shocking. I have believed my whole life that I am the one and only Catherine Gacad. My last name is unique. Apparently, one of my ancestors who had a common Filipino last name, made up ‘Gacad’ because he didn’t want to be mistaken for someone who had stolen a cow.

My perception of name uniqueness was shattered earlier today because of Friendster. Damn Friendster! Damn you!! I think about how easily my records are pulled up with a quick spelling of my last name.

“Would you mind searching by my last name?”

“Sure, how do you spell it?”

“Gacad. G-A-C-A-D. Gacad.”

“Oh, here you are. Catherine?”

“Yes, that’s me.”

It doesn’t matter if I’m trying to get a hold of my college transcript or paying off one of my gazillion parking tickets. My name does the trick.

And now I’m a little depressed. Depressed that I’m not the only Catherine Gacad. So sad, so sad.
