Fashion Friday: Brows

Not only was it a holiday weekend, but this is the last weekend before the close of escrow on my home. I’ve kept mum on the sale because I didn’t want to jinx it, but we’re all set to close in a couple days. So we spent part of today (Easter Sunday) moving stuff out of my condo. Not fun! S-T-R-E-S-S!

I wanted to post this on Friday, but got caught up with other things.

Not sure why the pencil-thin Asian eyebrow look has been trendy for so long. They need to go away! I used to have thick brows, but after years of waxing and plucking, they’ve lost their lustre.

I love this look. Thick, defined, and classic.

Fashion Friday: Pick Your Diet, They All Work

I read about this new diet called the Fast Diet, devised by a British doctor. The tag line for the book is ‘eat what you like..most of the time.’ How it works is you consume whatever your heart desires, but on 2 days out of the week, your consumption is restricted to 500 calories.

I am not trying to lose weight, but I am always intrigued by the latest fad diets as I used to be a manic dieter. I find diets and exercise so laughable and kind of defeating.

Here’s the truth. This diet works. Trust me, it does. Want to know another secret? All diets work! Yeah, they all do! I’m not being sarcastic, I’m being completely honest. The Paleo diet, the Atkins diet, the Zone, the lemonade diet (i.e., the lobotomy diet), all of them work. But as soon as you decide you’ve had enough, say hello to that long lost friend called blubber. End that diet and you can say sayonara to that sleek lean body of yours.

I feel the same way about exercise. I know, I know, no one believes me that exercise is bad for your health. But whatever. You just keep running, biking, and taking those yoga classes while I enjoy life.

Because of fertility reasons, I’m banned from sugar, but here’s what I ate on my cheat day—a ginormous chocolate chip cookie from the Grove in the Fillmore.

Fashion Friday: Timeless Gift

Back when I was in high school, a friend of mine gave me this purse that I have been using consistently for decades.

I just used it Friday night for the Raygun Gothic Rocketship farewell party on the Embarcadero. That big aluminum rocketship that has been on the Embarcadero for the past several years? Well it’s getting dismantled this weekend and Space Cowboys had a lovely send-off party with music blaring from their Unimog. They always have the best music.

Anywho, this purse is perfect to carry the essentials: ID, cash, and phone. Easy to dance with the purse around your shoulder without having to hold onto anything.

The person who gave it to me reads my blog so a big big thank you to my friend Cyrnni Ariate! Your gift has brought a smile to my face every time I’ve used it all these years.

Fashion Friday: Pretty in Pink

My life is just nuts right now.

Looks like my website redesign will launch tomorrow. So exciting, but also fearful at the same time. Last night, I had a mild freak-out. I started nit-picking at the design and asked Dean to weigh in on the colors. I felt like a bride who gets cold feet about something at the last minute. I mean, I have been wedded to this current design for years. It’s very sad saying good-bye. So sad that I made sure to take a snapshot of my blog this morning for posterity sake. Ahh, I will miss its clean classic simplicity, but time for a change.

Anywho, here’s a quick post before we head to the weekend. Gotta say something about the fashion at the Academy Awards. I personally LOVED Anne Hathaway’s dress. Not sure why it caused such an uproar. I think she looked adorable! Didn’t think she needed to apologize for wearing it. As long as she felt confident and liked it to begin with, can’t understand why she would say sorry.

Fashion Friday: The Only Coat You’ll Ever Need

See the picture of me in the previous post? I’m wearing a Miss Sixty ultra light weight packable down coat that I got from Nordstrom Rack for $70. It’s super warm and packs, like a sleeping bag, into a case that would fit a folding umbrella. I bought it for our trip to England and can’t stop wearing it. It’s perfect for SF’s ambiguous weather. Put it in your purse, then drag it out when it suddenly becomes frigid cold. I now want to sell all my other coats because I only need this one.

Couldn’t find the Miss Sixty brand online, but Uniqlo sells premium down ultra light coats that are well-priced at $90.

Fashion Friday: Red Wedding

We were at a beautiful wedding in sunny Carmel on Friday. I think red is a great, vibrant color. Perfect for a February wedding too.

Fashion Friday: Cotillion Couture

Here are photos from my cousin’s 18th birthday cotillion / debutante ball last weekend. It was hella loud which means I am getting so old.

Here’s the beautiful birthday girl.

This is a picture of me and my sister, and 2 of my cousins who are sisters. My older sister Therese posted this on Facebook and asked people to guess which one of us is her sister. Hard to tell, huh? We’re like quadruplets. I think I look like my cousin Alane with the white dress. My sister Therese in blue looks like my cousin Candace in the black dress on the right.

Whoah, this is just part of the family.

Fashion Friday: Wrinkles!

We had a cousin reunion last weekend and snapped these very fashionable photos. Look at how old I look compared to my cousins. See those lines between my eyebrows and on my cheeks? Damn, I am old.

Fashion Friday: Grandpa in Girls Clothing

Have you seen this guy? Liu Xianping is the 72-year-old grandfather of a fashion designer who owns Yuekou clothing in China. He models her clothing. The guy’s ad campaign has gone viral.

It really looks like the clothes were made for him. He’s so cute!

At the same time, I think it’s very strange that this is what women’s ideal body image is: a skinny old man!
