We took our train-obsessed Franco to the state capital Sacramento for the holiday weekend. I was really impressed with all the kid-friendly things to do. We went to Fairytale Town, Gold Bug Mine to pan for gold and check out the mines, and the California State Railroad Museum. We even became members of the museum since we went every day. The highlight of the trip were the 45 minute train rides. We rode twice: once on regular coach and another time on first class. I highly recommend the first class ride: Mrs. Field’s cookies, pretzels, nuts, chocolate, and a beverage of your choice. It seemed like every 10 minutes, we were getting another treat. For some reason, most of my photos are from Fairytale Town. I think I was so hot over the weekend, I couldn’t be bothered to take out my camera. But here are a few if you’d like to take a look. We will certainly be back!

Oh boy – Des would LOVE this. All of it.
I’ve only been to Sacramento once – or just through it or by it, on my way to Yosemite. I will stay longer next time.

Awesome photographs! I feel as though I would have loved all of these things as a child, too (the coal mining especially–for some reason, I was obsessed with mining for gold, lol). Looks as though you all had a great time!
