Dean and I are engaged!
He had asked friends about diamond rings, but hadn’t gotten a very receptive response when he requested help. Poor baby! So he decided to take it directly to the source.
“Look, I’ve asked some of my friends and some of your friends about help with shopping for an engagement ring. It’s not really working out. So why don’t you just pick out what you want, alright? I want you to be happy with it. And you know I want to marry you so let’s just get this ring.”
We found the ring at Derko Jewelers at the SF Jewelry Center. I found out about them when I was wandering around the San Francisco Center, came across the Derko store, and the guy said, “We don’t have any engagement rings here. Go to the Jewelry Center tomorrow.” The place is packed. It’s the only store within the jewelry center that gets a lot of traffic. Everyone seems to be going directly to that store. Most of the rings didn’t have a center stone which made it difficult for me to visualize the ring on my finger. I got really frustrated and was about to walk out when I spotted a ring with a center stone. I put it on and fell in love. We bought it on the spot, walked out of the store, Dean got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. So that’s our story.
I am too old for surprises! Besides, don’t most women shop around for their ring anyway? How much of a surprise can it be? I feel like Dean’s way was much more practical. We are old!
But happy. So very very happy.
